Saint-Georges

The following outlines the required repertoire selections for each round of the Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, International Violin Competition 2025, in Guadeloupe.

First Round: Video Recording

The video must feature the following repertoire, performed from memory:

• The first two movements from a Joseph Bologne Violin Concerto of the participant’s choice.
• One piece or movement from a different composer (e.g. movement from a concerto or a sonata, concert piece etc.)
• One virtuosic piece for solo violin (e.g. Paganini Caprice, Ysaÿe Sonata, Ernst Etude etc.)

If the selected pieces require accompaniment, the applicant must use a live piano accompanist. Pre-recorded or synthesized accompaniments are not permitted. Extended tutti cuts are acceptable, and repeats are optional. Start times for each piece and/or individual movements must be included in the description for the video.

Applicants should be clearly visible throughout the performance, with the camera positioned to capture the entire body, instrument, and hands at all times. The recording should be made in a high-quality audio and video format, ensuring that both the performance and the sound are clear and unaltered. To ensure that poor recording quality does not interfere with the judge’s ability to review the material, make sure that the accompaniment does not overshadow the applicant.

Please see the Competition Rules and Regulations webpage for all details regarding the first round of the competition.
